Das Institut wird von einem Vorstand, einem Beirat und der Mitgliederversammlung geleitet.
The governing board has a maximum of seven members. They are meeting frequently to manage the day-to-day business of the Institute. They are elected or re-elected for a one year term by the general assembly.

The scientific board oversees the scientific quality of the activities of the IFIS. Its members provide feedback based on their leading-edge expertise in integral studies. They are intervening according to emerging requirements. The current members of the scientific board are:
- Mark Edwards, PhD, University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia
- Wendelin Küpers, PhD, Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand
- Helmut Reich, PhD, Rutherford University
Further experts of integral studies are currently invited to join the scientific board.
The general assembly takes place two times a year under normal conditions. It is constituted by all members of the IFIS regardless their membership type. Only full members, however, have the right to vote on formal decisions.The general assemblies are generally linked to an academic event (presentations, workshop …) focusing on a specific topic.
